Intergenerational Connection:
A Day of Joy
Held in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, this one-day event brought together the First Partner, Governor, state and faith-based leaders, community members and volunteers to foster connection through fun activities, service and breathwork. The event strengthened pathways to resources, services, and support systems through meaningful connections and meal and grocery distribution.
Event Details:
California Love, California Strong is a statewide effort to advance social connection and belonging across California communities.
- Shared Experiences
Participants ranges across generations from youth to older adults. Throughout the event attendees danced together and sang karaoke bringing intergenerational connections to life.
- Peer Support / Service
Organizers also noted that service to others can play an important role, as helping others can foster a sense of belonging and purpose.
- Bringing Communities Back Together
“We’re encouraging Califonians to get outside and develop healthy authentic relationships and take care of their physical, mental and social well-being by being of service and really practicing self-care. Although technology connects us, it’s also isolating us. People are spending less and less time connected and in community. And that’s what today is all about. It’s all about bringing communities back together, especially intergenerational communities, and connecting the dots between community and better physical health, better mental health and better social health.”
